Eastern Rock Crawling Championhip EROCC at Jellico

Hi folks, today I had the pleasure of going to the first EROCC held at Jellico which is right on the Tennessee / Lentucky line. (90 minutes from my home.)

Many of my friends designed and built the cource, and other freinds competed today and tomorrow.

At this moment I do not have pictures ready, but I suspect by the end of the weekend there will be many sites available.

One surprise was that not everyone competing had D-60's..... Some had Rockwells and others had those Unimog Axles.

Was quit an interesting day.

I was also there today with bmrisko,
it was INCREDIBLE wheeling. The mog was extremely impressive, too bad he got injured when he endo'ed off a ledge. Durham and Shupe definitely put on a great show in the ravine area on the hill climb exiting that area. I mainly watched the ravine, tabletop, and battleship. Aparently I missed the best obstacle called little cuss. Anyways here is a link to some of the pictures that I got from a guy off of POR.

Where are the rocks??? I see only a few hard parts that you have plenty of room to line up for.

All Rocks can be found between the trees!!

yeah one day I might be lucky enough to go wheel out west, you guys definitely got rocks.

for events yes cones or flags are the norm. Those picts are from a fun run no competition except weather the jeep would stay in one piece.


we cant do mud out here it takes water to create it and every knows people in CA just crash whatever they are driving when that strange wet stuff falls from the sky.

Frank, I was under the impression from everyone's Anti-MT/R sentiment back there that all the people east of the Mississippi ran an Interco tire of some sort.

Hi Blaine,

I think you would find most of the serious wheelers around here have more then one set of tires. The MT/R are fast becoming the tire of choice for many of the Jeepers I know for dry conditions.

However, when things get wet here they don't appear to do as well as other tires.

I think part of that problem is the rock type here which has a lot of well worn smooth surfaces. (Read that no where near as sharp edged as in other places..)

When this stuff gets wet, and the dirt around it turns to mud it's time to change over to something closer to a tractor tire.

To give you an estimate, I would say 50% of the participants this weekend EROCC ran with Interco Tires of some sort.

I would say another 40% had MT/R's (with a backup set of Interco or BFG MT's, if it rained).

A handful of competitors (two I think.) had the not yet released BFG MT Extremes. (These were impressive. All hand grooved. One guy had like four sets with different patterns cut in them.)


Of the folks I wheel with I would say 25% or better are running the MT/R's. I would expect that number to increase with the general availability of the 37's improving every day. (However, to a person, most would say they do not do well in muddy or wet conditions.)

The rest run about 50% Interco, and 25 % BFG MT's.

You guys are lucky you don't have to deal with this mud issue.
