I've been looking for a better way to cut up misc sized pieces of 1/4" plate. Using an angle grinder with a cut off wheel takes me forever and a cutting torch leaves such a crappy edge.

I saw these saws advertised a few years back and decided to give it a try.

It works amazingly well! Beautiful, smooth cut, relatively fast and it catches all the metal shavings. Today I cut several 8" cuts through 3/8" plate and it was effortless. Wish I would have bought this several years ago

I'm not sure if this brand is the best one to buy however. It uses a 7" blade (7.25" seems to be the norm), has basically no sight line to start your cut on mark and has no provision to lift the gaurd while cutting (trailing edge seems to hang sometimes when making long cuts).

Most of the big names (Milwaukee, Porter-Cable etc) are now offering similar products that might be worth checking out.

I've never used one of those gizmo's, but if you like it - it must be okay.
