Heim joint options

Right now i'm running 5/8" UMAX10T heim joints on my steering linkage. They are wearing out and i'm looking at options on what i might replace them with. They've lasted OK, and were fine when i was still in So Cal, but the wet clay and sand over here have really pounded them. So i'm looking for heim joints that fare better in the wet, greaseable would be even better.

Any suggestions?

Yes, find a good TRE and dump the heims. If you are concerned about misalignment ability, there are several TRE's out there that will give you what you need.

Tie Rod End. Chevy and Dodge TRE's can sport quite a bit of misalignment properties and the WJ stuff on Blaines' rig has held up to some very severe abuse as well.

I later saw where you said you were SOA over in POR but I still stand with my advice even if it means cutting up what you have to get TRE's in place. TRE's will outlast heims IMO, especially on a rig that sees alot of different conditions from the road to the trail. I went to a lift with cartridge joints on the control arms for the very same reason - 1.5 years and $800 of heims in the crapper on my short arm lift due to wear. No thanx.

I know you don't want to hear this, but dump the rod ends (heims) and switch to OEM style tie rod ends from a larger rig.

I am running the WJ TRE's and have been for a couple of years of miserable abuse on 37's in JV more times than I can count with ram assist and a stout Lee box. I have yet to wear one out and when I ran heims, I was swapping them out at a prodigious rate.

I ran 6 and they were good for 2-4 trips. I also ran anywhere from high dollar 35,000 lbs breaking strength to the cheap QA1's and across the board they all failed miserably.

Got any pics, Blaine? Did you use the whole system? ie: TRE's and rods from a WJ? Is it a high clearance setup?

Yes, Frank did it. The Jeep used to be Andy Lamar's. Heres how it looks. That brown s**t is called "rust". Thats because they have thing called "moisture" over here!!

I like the WJ setup, but ??? is a factor right now (when isn't it??).
