A Few Pics from Work

Well as some of you know I work for a commercial Loudspeaker Manufacturer in Orange, We Build High End Components and enclosures for the Touring Sound and Commercial Audio Industry.

We are the last of a die-ing breed in that we produce and manufacture EVERYTHING in house at our facility in Orange.

Just though I would share a few pics of our what we do..

Enjoy.

Here is our flagship 950 Neodymium Compression Driver

Here is one of our 1,000W 15" Dual Concentric Drivers

here is a picture of some of our Floor Monitors we make for the tour sound Industry, currently these are on tour with Jack Johnson, Red Hot CHilli Peppers, Blink 182, Randy Travis and a bunch more.

They are made from 13 ply void free Baltic Birch and are Radial Routed and contain NO parallel walls

Here is a pic of some of the Alloy Diaphragms we make coming off the assembly line

Re: A Few Pics from Work

pretty cool!

seeing as how I'm at work until sunrise tomorrow, and I'm pretty bored, I'll go take some pics of my shop and the product I make. Don't get to manufacture anything, but I do printing, and at times, it sure can get exciting :P

The alloy diaphragms, do they go in the compression drivers? They look like speaker cones, but speaker cones are not called diaphragms, right?

Is there Baltic Birch that is not void free? I've cut up a bunch of it and have never come across a void. Does the stuff you guys use come in those goofy 5 x 5 sheet sizes?

Do you leave your credit cards at home?

Blaine, those alloy diaphragms go into the Compression Drivers.

we make Compression drivers with a 1.75", 3.0" and 4.0" diameter diaphragm (the touring sound industry needs these things to project a couple hundred feet outdoors)

I leave my Credit Cards in the Truck outside otherwise our Gaussing Machine would blank em out..

We have a 10,000 KJ gausser that will gause Neo at 22,000 Kilogauss (total metal saturation) so you really have to watch out.

We purchase the Baltic Birch is standard 4.8 sheets usually a container at a time... it is then layed out on the CNC cutting table and cut for minimal waste, then routed and formed, glued, fastened, etc.

after that we either Line-x it, or paint it in black or white, depending on the application

(production companies that put out big touring events, currently for us, Randy Travis, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, REM, Jack Johnson, Blink 182, Tim Mcgraw.. etc..)

Its basically a big ass water cooled electromagnet, that "shocks" the metal with so much electricity that is forces the molecules to become polarized.

the output of the electricity is rated in Kilojules (spelling?) needles to say you would Not want to be on the receiving end of it..

Gauss is the measurement of the particles in steel which have been polarized and it give you an amount of "magnetism"

Standard Ferrite composition material will reach total saturation at approx 18,000 kilogauss, Neodymium (a rare earth metal) will handle up to 22,000 kilogauss before it reaches saturation.

Very cool.

Do most of your components wind up in most of the monitors, racks, woofers, amps, etc. made for audio production, concerts, etc.? It's interesting to me because I've bought monitors before while DJing in college. Plus I played trumpet in a few Jazz Funk & Ska bands and we had a bunch of equipment. A lot of the guys would be partial to brands. I'm just wondering if most brands buy the speakers, cones, woofers and components from where you work.

You know, sort of like Spicer U-joints or AC Delco alternators.
