Question 9" high Pinion Skid plate.

Blaine, What did you use to build your skid plate... I'm out of extra $ and I need a cheap project to work on. If I borrow (OK, steal) your design, do you think I need to worry about draining the gear oil or frying the 3rd member gasket?

I'd also love to see any other Ideas folks have come up with...

Thanks

Guys, I used 3/16" sectioned and welded plate. I modified a u-bolt to work like a muffler clamp around the pinion snout. That was the hard part. Not a lot of room there and the bolt has to be clearanced for the pinion oiling groove.

I doubt you could build one on the diff while it's in the jeep.

It is a ton of work, but I will be glad to help anyone that needs it.

Mine works so well, I would not trade it.

Blaine, You said you don't think it could be done easily with the axle in the Jeep. What if I could get it up at eye level on a lift? Would you be willing to help me take a crack at it? Maybe you've got some work to do that would be easier to do on a lift... and while you're up here you could give me a hand. I've got a 110V mig, a 220V Buzzbox and a 220V tig at the shop. I would think one of those would work to put the thing together.
