trying to make a hard top hoist
Any one make thier own hoist for inside a garage? I am gathering some things to make my own hoist for the hard top --I'd leave it off but it gets cold here in Missouri tornados, hail and snow are not stopped by roll bars.
Anyway if someone has done this can you share the plans you used? I know a new one is around $145 or so but certainly I can make one for far less. |

I made a manual one once for about $5. I got the pulley and rope from Harbor Freight, an eye bolt and fender washers from Home Depot (drilled all the way through and bolted) and used some ratchet straps I already have. It is fine if you're using it twice a year and aren't going to keep it suspended.
If I were to use this more often, I'd splurge and get an electric hoist from HF.

LOL ok no PVC pipe!
I used some 1/2" square stock, T braces and some 3/8" poly rope 4 single pulleys and a couple hooks. See what I can "mess" up with those and some tools. I was going for a manual lift but will check out HF ---electric sounds much better !! |

I got it figured out, have a couple pics. Nothing remarkable but it works. And the hoist was motorized by adding 1 more pulley about 3' off the ground and hooking up to a 4 wheeler so lift created by Kawasaki.

4 screw eyes, 4 cinch straps
Next one will use barn door track so I can slide the top over to the other stall when it's off; $145
