Should I change my RE crossmember from the 3 piece to the 5 piece?

I have one of the older RE longarm lifts on my TJ, the kind that came with the 3 piece crossmember. There is someone here locally selling a new 5 piece crossmember that comes with the 97-02 kits now. Assuming the holes line up in the frame, should I upgrade it? Can you remove the transmission with the middle section removed without removing the frame pieces?

Unless you need to take out the tranny now for some reason or anticipate doing it shortly, I wouldn't bother doing that amount of work unless you have to. I *think* the holes do line up and that the only difference is the removable center section.
