Today was a rousing success on all fronts

Our little wrenching party managed to install one complete hydroboost system on a ZJ in it's entirety. This is remove stock system, install boost unit, plumb brake lines, and plumb powersteering hoses, bleed everything and road test to satisfaction.

The good news is that the ZJ now stops very well, but the front calipers and rotors are limiting the overall system. The master is producing over 1300 psi line pressure and this is still not enough to reliably lock the fronts. The 1300 psi is an educated guess because the 1000 psi gauge was maxed at half pedal.

Pros- relatively easy to install.
-moderately cost effective.
-massive amounts of line pressure
-proven system
-good potential to take advantage of larger calipers and rotors

Cons- be prepared to think out of the box on the install
-too much line pressure for Wilwood calipers(maybe)
-if you can't bleed brakes correctly and power steering lines and pumps correctly, don't even attempt this install
-inherently lower pedal height (may be a bit disconcerting to some) the pedal is exactly the same height as the gas pedal

Also completed today was the install of new rear trackbars on Robert's and Sergey's jeeps. On Sergey's we also managed to re-do his somewhat mangled draglink, tie-rod and install a new steering stabilizer.

It was a very productive day and thanks to all who assisted, Kat, Sergey, William, Robert, and Shalom, it was a very fine day indeed.

It is not who you know, It is who knows you
Jeeps do not make jeepers, jeepers make Jeeps.
Which is more important, the degree or education?

fun and thanks!

Thanks everyone for helping out. I really appreciate it. Driving home was actually relaxing for a change

Hey Blaine,

I found out where that extra whooshing noise is coming from... but if I tell you, you are either going to laugh at me or make me post the response in the FLUFFY section.

Shalom

Cudos to Blaine & Co

Yep! That was one extremely productive venture that exceeded everyone’s best expectations on what could be accomplished in just one day.

My steering feels very precise now. While I was driving home I kept thinking about all the built jeeps that pop up on sale here and there, and how they worth less than the parts in them, and that my jeep worth more than the parts in it, because of precision of all the suspension components. This is a jeep that can take hardest trails, and be as precise and well behaved on highway at the same time as many would not think possible in a jeep that big.

Thank you everyone for the help! And Kat, thanks for the purse… Err. For that European thingy... You know what I am talking about.
