Great weekend

This weekend was fantastic. I would like to thank everyone that came out.

We had a fantastic group of wheelers, and while they were "rookies" on the Hammers they all had their stuff together and could drive very well. I was very impressed with everyone's rig and their skills and driving it, and with the way the group worked together and enjoyed themselves.

A huge thank you to Brain (Blktj), Eric (Nailer), Alan (igofsn), Jason (jason), Jeff (jeff weston), Scott (scott hill), Joe (joe dillard), Sergey (TObject), and last but certainly not least, our fearless trail leader and spotter extrodinair - Blaine and Kathryn for making my weekend great.

The weather was as close to perfect as I've experienced, the trail was hard, we had no damaged save for Scott tearing up a valve stem), and the camp fire banter was great.

It really drove home the reality of this hobby, and that is that it is all about the people you chose to enjoy it with. The trip could have been ruined had one selfish or self centered person, or someone not at all prepared, had been in the group. There was none of that junk to be seen and it really makes it easy to enjoy the trail.

Certainly didn't feel like babysitting.

Thanks to everyone!!!

Jeff "Best Stuck" Cassens not to be confused with Jeff "Best Stuck Runner Up" Weston

Lesson's learned

I posted a Lesson's learned post awhile back in response to a trail ride gone awry. This trip was as good as that one was bad, and that's saying something.

My faith in why I enjoy this hobby so much has been fully restored and then some. No agendas, no scorecards, the egos stayed back in camp keeping the bad attitudes, disrespect, and alcohol company. Not that any of that showed up when we returned to camp, but none of it was on the trail. And that's the way it should be.

What a fine, enjoyable, and entertaining group of folks did I have the pleasure to spend the weekend with.

My special thanks to Erik, Al, Brian, Joe, Jason, (the first timers) for coming out and showing us how to enjoy ourselves again.

Each and every one of you are most welcome back into our camp at any time for any run.

The regulars, Jefferey, Jefferson, Sergey, Scott, Thanks guys, it was indeed a joy to wheel once again with you all.

I'm still a bit miffed over the "Most Cranky" title you bestowed upon me, but I figure I'll find a way to reward all of you for it at some time.

Extremely Special Thanks go to my wonderful partner in life, my darling Kat, for keeping me company, taking off work an extra day just so we could spend it together chasing desert tortoises and lizards. It was a delightful time.

It sucks to lose the "best stuck" boy a coin toss but it'll just inspire me to try harder next time. I too had a fantastic time as well. Each trip out is better than the last and this was no exception. Those who were there know what a great time it was and those that weren't will have to take our word for it.

First time or not, Brian, Eric & Al did a great job and it'd be a pleasure to wheel with them again any day. Bottom line, this was a great, supportive, fun(ny) group to wheel with.

I echo the great time.

It was nice to have people new to the trails all be such great people and it went so great that no one was not wanted back and no one was scared so much that they wont be back.

once again a great time and thanks to everyone to making it so much fun.

I can't possibly find words worthy of the thanks you all deserve. With out all of your hard work the weekend wouldn't have been close to as great as it was. I'm so glad I was able to be a part of the group.

Thank you Blaine for all the spotting even after i decide to take a premature right turn.

thank you Kat and Joe for babysitting me on the top side of the trail.

Jeff, Jeff, Jason and Scott thanks for the support, both verbally and against gravity.

sergey, thanks for leaving me with only one title.

Al(stall champion) and Erik(most fearless)... I told you it'd be a blast.

here's a pic after a Friday afternoon trial run for the atlas...

from left to right: Jason, Sergey, Joe, Blaine, Erik and myself (not pictured... behind the camera)

see you this fall.

Does anyone have a picture of Alan nearly launching Weston and I over his Jeep as we hung off the side.

Great pictures.

Thanks again!

Yes. In fact if Blaine weren't as cranky, the weekend would have been perfect!

Just kidding! Nobody was cranky.

Big thanks to everybody, and to Joe especially for the company all the way from San Diego.

Thanks to Jeff Cassens for letting us crush in his coach.

Thanks to Eric for potted crab.

Thanks to Kathryn, to Scott Hill, I am not going to name everybody personally due to a case of laziness: thanks to everybody for everything. Let's do it again!

Thumbs up

Hats off to all who attended or were involved in any way! (wives allowing husbands to go, etc ) I don't think it's possible for me to say how well I enjoyed myself.

I have a newfound understanding and respect for those who choose to go to these extream heights and tackle the challenges these type trails have to offer. GREAT job everybody!

Saying I had a blast is an understatement. While I didn't drive, the experience was very enjoyable to say the least. Thanks to Sergey and Scott for the passenger seats. It may be awhile before my jeep ever climbs the avalanche made to look like a trail you call the Hammers. But if offered a seat again, I would go in a heartbeat.
The campfire talk was very enjoyable. Great group to go with.
I do have pictures and will get them posted here shortly.

if anyone has any good pics of me running this trail, and wouild like to share.. please let me know that too.

i had a truly wonderful time wheeling with each and every one of you. it is nice to be able to get out and tackle a nice trail like this with great people. i love to see people hanging, and climbing all over other peoples jeeps to keep them grounded. it is a sure sign of the teamsmanship that real jeeping is all about.
thanks, again.. for the invitation.
i hope to be invited on another one some time.
enjoy the pics!

We had the other kind of day on the hammers.

Steve (orange CJ-7) had an OX locker that didn't want to engage,

Tommy tore his cross member at the frame,

I ripped a hard brake line off the rear axle,

Derrick (yellow CJ-7) tore the sidewall out of an SSR and THEN taco'd a Weld forged aluminum wheel

Dave, in the EB broke, a 9" axle shaft, and

Bob broke the anti wrap leaf on his left rear spring pack.

Dave and Steve decided to turn around after Dave broke the axle shaft, and then Dave got a flat on the way back to camp.

Sheesh. At least I had fun.

Good god - I either need to get some tighter shorts or put on the 10 pounds I've dropped - christ - anyone need their sink fixed...

By the way - there is a reason so many of us are pushing on Al's Jeep and it's not his driving - it's those tires!!!

I'd get the line and those damn Procomp MT's would slip off. Next time, I'll have MTR's.

Ok, here goes

Here are my pictures from this past weekend. Some of you may recall what I said I did at the internet. So, if this doesn't work, you know why. Enjoy.
JV rookie run

As a rider not a driver, I did notice that I took more pictures from other people's cameras than I did with mine. Cause I had more time than they did.

Talking Simply Awesome!

This was one of the best wheeling trips I've had the pleasure to be part of. I took a few pics, you can view them here.

Sledge Hammer, May 01, 2004

Blaine and I took a drive Friday morning and found some local wild life.

After wheeling all day in the heat we were treated to a shower! Thank you mrblaine for inventing the shower
