Extracting images from video file

Anyone know how to extract still pictures from a video? We recently had a golf tournament for "One Child Foundation" (I'm on the board of directors). One of the participants made a video out of still pictures that they took. I'm not sure what program they used to create it but they are .VOB files. I'd like to use some of the stills for our next event but can't figure out how to extract them. Any clues?

Thanks!

Jeeper

If you care about quality, get the original still images from the author. Not the video.

VOB files are encoded as MPEG-2; anything that can read MPEG-2 should read VOB.

Unfortunately, we cannot retrieve the originals. I have several programs that I use when making my own movies. I can import the video into them to Edit but for some reason, I cannot get the individual stills. The entire "Movie" is nothing but stills set to music. I have Studio 7, Ulead DVD Factory, and Movie Maker.

Thanks!

There are no individual stills; it's a continuous compressed video stream.

Hit the pause button, then hit the Print Screen button on your keyboard, then paste the clipboard contents in a graphics application, and trim the edges.

Oooooo, that would suck! But, if that's the only way to do it...

Thanks!

That's not the only way to do it, but the problem is that you want to extract something that is not there.

You can't extract Monna Lisa from a camcorder video recording made by a tourist in the museum; well you can, but it's going to be a very disappointing copy in comparison to the da Vinci's original.

Don't destroy originals.

I understand. I just thought that since the original video was comprised of individual Jpegs, that you could extract them even after conversion to Mpeg. I tried the Ulead "Edit Disc" option and it does have an "Extraction" feature, unfortunately its blurred out so that it's unselectable after importing the video.

Oh well....I guess we'll just have to have another tournament!

Thanks for the help!!!!!!

There are some utilities out there for making screen captures from DVDs.
