Tie rod ends
I have one of the older RE tie rod from a few years ago when they use to be hollow. I had death wobble so I thought I'd replace the ends to eliminate the tie rod. I got 2 part #s from Mr Kilby and bought the ends. Neither one would thread into the RE tie rod. I also couldnt get one end off of the tie rod, using heat and PB blaster. I called RE and Ryan said it should be a stock replacement part.
I have a friend that works at a machine shop that said he'd just build me a heavy duty one out of solid rod, but needed to know what taps he needed. I went and bought the stock replacement ends for a TJ from Autozone and gave them to him to match up with the taps. He said that he would have to order custom taps because the threads were some strange size. The ends from my RE tie rod are 3/4-16 which he has taps for because its a more common thread. Its a longshot, but question is does anyone have part numbers for TJ TRE's that are 3/4-16? The parts that I bought from AZ are ES3094L and ES3095R and listed as stock replacement. thanks Jim Klouzek 97 TJ Sport

Jim,
Those are Moog part numbers (if that helps). I know for a fact that ES3096L is the TRE that hooks up on the TJ driver side. It couples up with the Grand Cherokee tie rod I am using. I have not a clue what the thread size is, but maybe someone else can help here. The ONLY cabana boy in this community who has won a raffle! http://www.stu-offroad.com |

Looks like my friend found the taps and is going to make me a HD tie rod using the end that I found. Now if I could just find a heavy duty drag link.

Bushwhacker, so the ends they gave the part numbers too are indeed wrong? I wonder where they came up with those numbers....

It appears so, I couldnt get either one of them to thread into the one end.
I guess I'll hang on to the RE rod for a spare and use the HD one my friend is making. Jim Klouzek 97 TJ Sport
