July 18 - 22 Big Bear Extravaganza

The time has come for the "3rd Annual Big Bear Extravaganza Because my son Matt is in Town and He Loves to Camp and Wheel" Whew what a title.

Anywho

July 18th - 22nd we will be camping in Big Bear here http://www.reserveusa.com/jsp/common.../newindex.html

I have reserved site#1 and my friend has reserved site#2 so that should leave us a good deal of room. Last year the Park Host was really cool about the number of Jeeps just as long as we allowed traffic to move through. Even so there is parking on the main trail about 150' away that is clearly visible from our campsite (right next to it as a matter of fact)

This is going to be a mellow bunch of days with trips to Dishpan, Lower Larga, Holcomb, Pontiac, John Bull, etc etc etc. The Crab Flats campground is dead smack in the middle of Dishpan and Holcomb and Lower Larga as well, so I'm sure they will be visited more often than the others. Some exploring will take place around the Pontiac sluice area as well. Mind you if you want to go somewhere else go, it's not like we're married. William and I have mapped out a basic strategy, but nothing is in stone.

Last year William Anders TJRON cbremer chrisL MJR Dukes69 Scott Hill and a host of others joined us for what was a fun time, this year will be even better. I have no idea why but I'm sure it will be.

So if you wish to come play, and you have the proper equipment to do so (as we all do, now right Dukes69:-)) are willing to take a easy relaxed pace and not try to do every trail every day or freak out because 100,00 Humvees are in front of us smashing their way up John Bull (happened to me last year) come on and play.

For myself and my son it's all about the friendships, fun around the campfire, the wheeling, and the goofy stuff William does. We all usually potluck each dinner and breakfast and this year we are going to even make a few trips to the grocery store instead of trying to drive everything up from Ventura County. That of course is individual preference, but it's alot of fun to share.

I just need to make it clear - we are going to do the hardest trails in Big Bear - if your vehicle can't make it don't come as a driver. I'm sure you could find a shotgun seat if you want to come, I just don't want to spend the first day watching bad things happen to nice guys Jeeps. I'm not being a dick, I just watched it happen last year and it sucked for them.

One more thing - obviously you don't need to stay the whole time - stay as long as you care to

I think the toll was 1 rim (beat back with hammer), 1 CV driveshaft, 1 home made rock rail, 1 Grand tail gate, and one tire.

Not bad for the first 30 yards of trail.

I wonder if we will see Rock Buddha again.

If we do, we NEED to get a picture this year. He's kind of like BigFoot, just a legend or maybe a dream, until there is proof

Who's Grand was it I tuged out with my little M6000 winch? Poor thing almost died. Both my winch and the Grand.

If it was at the Creek then it was emills, the one who lost the driveshaft, and most likely permission to ever wheel again

Yep, that was mine. Total cost of trip, front driveshaft, tailgate and nearly a winch. Oh well, note to self - a Grand on 31s does not belong on harder trails like that.

I still do have permission to wheel - just not in the Grand. So I got a new rig to play in. Last weekend I picked up a 79 Scout II that is SOA on 35s. I woudl love to join again this year, but I doubt that it will be ready to go wheeling that soon. I gotta fix up a few things first, and I am going to be out of town next week.

Eric

So we will be arriving Friday afternoon early, 1pm or so. Setting up camp and hopefully hitting a trail.

Let me know when you are planning on stopping by so I can make sure we are there.

We will of course be on CB channel 4 and 4.4 on the FRS.
