This past weekend a representative called my work & left a message claiming to be from my Master Card company.

She said she was calling to verify some recent transactions and changes to my account. All which are possibilities due to me recently moving and some transactions I did while in Japan a few weeks ago.

I updated my account over the phone with them about a week ago and ordered a new card since mine was expiring.

Where it gets interesting is when I tried to dial the # that was left on my work answering machine.

The # that she left is 1-800-688-7904. I called it and got a recording saying that the # I called is now connected with a new National Directory Assistance Service brought to you by Tell Seven and I would need to contact a new number and they give you the number to call. They repeat the new number 2 times - then there's a pause, then later they tell you there's a fee of $4.99 + two other fees.

The bogus fee number they provided is: 1010-275-00

I immediately called my credit card company & reported this. They informed me that they indeed did attempt to call my work to verify my recent changes. However - the manner in which they did so is in no way their practices.

They were VERY interested in knowing every detail and I provided it to them.
